85X is an experimental radio station that is a creative collaboration between HVPR (Hudson Valley Public Radio), Neversink Media Group (Wall Radio, WDLC) and AK22 Digital Media (WKZE). More like an evolving “radio stage” then a traditional station, 85X provides the opportunity for commercial and non-commercial industry professionals to collaborate and create to bring a fresh look and sound to conventional radio. All radio enthusiasts are welcome to submit content to 85X pursuant to the following guidelines:
- The DJ’s who present content on 85X are trapped on a floating space station. At this point, the technology exists to send the DJs into space. We just haven’t figured out how to get them home… yet.
- The name of the 85X Space Station broadcast facility is the “HVPR DisHarmony.”
- 85X’s floating studios are powered via a microwave electrical conduit by the HVPR TOP SECRET broadcast laboratory hidden deep underground in the foothills of Fairfield County, CT. Audio from the 85X Orbiting studios is broadcast to local listeners via WAXB-850 AM’s earth station antennas, making WAXB an EXTRA-Terrestrial Radio Station. HVPR Labs uses fusion generation to power its ground station and orbital studios, making it environmentally friendly.
- 85X is a “green radio station,” which means we invite our radio loving friends from Mars and beyond to participate in our broadcasts.
- Due to distance limitations, many of our requests take 15-20 light years to return to the HVPR wideband antenna array. Therefore, many of the requests you hear on HVPR are 30-40 years old.
- Yes – the majority of the 85X inter-stellar listeners prefer West Coast AOR. They don’t know that we call it Yacht Rock now. We know you were wondering about that.
- 85X is broadcast on REAL earth based terrestrial radio stations. This means that we have to comply with all FCC and Intergalactic broadcast rules and regulations.
- WAXB is an AM station. Our ET friends prefer AM because it travels much further then FM. However, we expect to see WAXB appear on the FM band shortly.
- 85X in INDEPENDENT Radio station. We are not controlled by the much larger Global Radio Networks or other boring, unoriginal terrestrial groups. Remember, we’re EXTRA terrestrial!
